Outings & Outdoor Education

*New* Homeschool Days

The homeschool programming is generally targeted towards youth 7-13 years old. We’ll use a variety of interactive and hands-on activities to demonstrate how earth sciences are woven into our everyday lives.

SCHEDULE & TOPICS

April 16: Seasonal Changes – Signs of Spring includes a farm tour, types of trees (e.g. evergreen vs. deciduous), how plants change from winter, spring, and summer.

April 23: The Water Cycle. Water is a limited resource that all living things need to survive. We’ll demonstrate the steps of the water cycle (evaporation, condensation, and preciptation), and discuss the role of reservoirs in managing water supply.

April 30: Soil Structure & Erosion. What is erosion and why is generally considered a bad thing? Most plants cannot survive without healthy soil. As farmers, we take steps to preserve the most precious soil (topsoil).

What You Can Expect:

  • Up to 90 minutes of guided education and activities
  • Programming focused on agriculture and earth sciences
  • All classes start promptly at 10:30am. Arrive 15 minutes early to get checked in

Youth Field Trips

For school trips and other youth group outings, we’re able to fulfill educational requirements with the seasonal opportunities on the farm.

During our farm tour, we can discuss changing seasons, animal habitats, plant reproductive systems, weather and erosion, or plant types (e.g. perennial vs. annual or decidious vs. coniferous). Just let us know what your needs are and we’ll provide a customized visit to your group’s needs.

With over 43 acres to explore including mature forest, open meadow, creeks, and the 1 acre pond, we have a unique opportunity to explore vastly different habitats in a relatively small area.

Teens and Adult Outings

For older groups, Woods Tree Farm is a great place to “unplug”. Cell reception out here isn’t great, and that can be a good thing.

In addition to a farm tour and environmental education, we have experience running group problem-solving and team building activities.

You’re also welcome to bring your own activities. Just let us know how we can help you make the most of your visit.
